Polls in Georgia open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 3.
The rule that matters most is the one about the line. If you are in line before 7 p.m., you may cast your ballot. The doors close behind the last person standing there, and that person still votes, however long the line takes to clear.
So a poll worker announcing that polls are closed is not telling you to leave. If you were in line, stay in it.
This trips up voters who used early voting the last time around.
During early voting you may cast a ballot at any early voting location in your county. On Election Day itself you must go to your assigned polling place. They are frequently not the same building.
Your assigned location is listed on your My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov. Precinct lines and polling places move between cycles. Check it the week of the election rather than trusting the memory of the last one.
Georgia runs three weeks of in-person early voting before Election Day, including two Saturdays. Counties may also offer Sunday voting, and the state's calendar permits it on the second and third Sundays before Election Day.
Early voting locations by county are published by the Secretary of State and appear on your My Voter Page. Runoffs run a shorter early voting period than general elections do.
If poll workers cannot confirm your identity, your address, or other required information, you may request a provisional ballot. You cast it that day, and it counts once you resolve the problem with your county Board of Registrars — by the end of the following day.
A provisional ballot is a real ballot with a deadline attached, and the deadline is short. If you cast one, put the follow-up on your calendar before you leave the parking lot.
